TSL Education, publisher of the Times Educational Supplement and the Times Higher Education, has acquired Education Data Surveys (EDS) for an undisclosed sum. EDS provides research and information about the education sector and is the leading provider of management information on the job market for classroom teachers and leaders in the education community.
As part of the agreement, Professor Howson, Chairman of EDS, will join the TSL Management team. The acquisition strengthens TSL’s expertise in the teacher recruitment market and also provides a basis for Professor Howson to develop ideas to help teachers better understand trends in the job market.
TSL Education, through its publications and website, provides the UK’s leading education jobs service, as well as providing unrivalled news and information on the education scene.
Bernard Gray, Chairman of TSL, said, “EDS is an excellent fit with TSL and Professor Howson is an acknowledged expert in the labour market for teachers. He has over twenty years experience in research and teaching about the leadership job market. During the past ten years EDS has become the key information provider in this area. The resources of TSL will allow us to harness this expertise to the benefit of all our customers”.
Professor Howson said, “I have worked closely with TES for the last ten years after relinquishing my post as the government’s chief adviser on teacher supply. I look forward to developing new ideas and providing better information for schools on the recruitment market. I also hope that we will provide more advice and information for job seekers, especially new recruits into teaching, where EDS already has a strong identity through our existing portfolio of advice and information”.
