News Corp has made a hefty writedown on the value of its digital education unit and signalled a potential exit from a business Rupert Murdoch once hoped would shake up the textbook-heavy US education industry. The $371m impairment charge recorded in News Corp’s fiscal fourth quarter nearly matches the $390m it paid in 2010 for Wireless Generation, around which it built Amplify, its education division.
