New tax regulations that affect the amount of VAT charged for digital magazines are set to come into effect across Europe in 2015.
As from January 1, 2015, VAT for telecom, broadcasting and electronic services, including digital magazines, will be charged from the location where the customer is based – rather than where the seller is located, which is how the regulations currently operate.
As a result of the rule change, businesses will now need to identify where their customers are located in case of cross-border business-to-consumer transactions, and know which VAT rate to correctly apply.
